That being said if anyone is applying to the Disney College Program and has questions, please ask! I'm totally open to answering any questions and helping out as much as I can.
Here's a throwback photo:
Missing these people so much, but soon Qanita and Joey will be visiting me in NY--excited is an understatement! As for Lauren and Suke, hopefully one day I can visit them in Australia and Japan.

Hi! So this may seem a little odd but i also go to Hofstra and am a PR major! I came across your blog tagged on a twitter post about the DCP...I am accepted for the fall...wanted to know how you worked out your credits transferring and what classes you took while there!
ReplyDeleteThat's a crazy coincidence! But kind of awesome haha what year are you? Have you been working with Rene in off campus internships? She will find you credits where you thought they didn't exist. Basically the comm school will not accept any credits for the DCP, so what I did was use my free electives. If you want to remain a full time student at Hofstra and still get your scholarships you have to have at least 12 credits. I had 9 credits of free electives left, which Rene uploaded on myhofstra as "Disney College Program Internship." The only thing you need to do in order to get all 9 credits (or 12 if you have that many free electives) is write a 50 page research paper (I somehow accomplished it, so you can to!). It was a struggle though, so I definitely recommend starting it early. My last three credits came from an independent study I did with the English department. English is my minor, so I definitely recommend trying to find a professor in your minor to do an independent study with (if you don't have a full 12 credits that is). I think it's better to do an IS than a online class because there were times when I had 13 hour days at Disney and my Professor would understand and push deadlines back.
DeleteAs for Disney classes, I unfortunately didn't take any because of all the work I already had with Hofstra but I had roommates and friends who took Disney classes and loved it! The one I really wanted to take and I think you would like as a PR student, is corporate communications. It's a real class so there is homework, but learning about Disney PR would be pretty awesome. Also some of my friends took Disney Heritage which is basically an entire class about Walt's life and history and it's supposed to be fun :)
I hope this helped. If it's confusing or you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. And good luck! The DCP is amazing and at times you'll have a love hate relationship with work, but honestly you'll miss it so much once you leave. So take in every moment and have fun! :)
