I was accepted into the Disney College Program!
Last night I opened my e-mail and BAM "Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the Disney College Program at the Walt Disney World Resort!" Then I ran back to my room to see what position I was given! I scared my friend Ananda because I slammed into my door (she was in my room) and screamed "I WAS ACCEPTED!" I'm sorry Ananda, but I'm really glad you were there to see me go insane! Then I clicked on a link and came to this page, which I will print out and put on my wall or something:
It wasn't my first choice to be "Main Entrance Operations," but it was my fourth, so not so bad right? I'm not sure which park I will be working at yet, but I'm sure I'll find that out when I get there. But basically...I'M SO EXCITED AND I WILL BE IN FLORIDA FOR A SEMESTER! I get to skip most of the cold season and work at the happiest place on earth! On top of that I will be taking a corporate communications class and a Disney heritage class. I'm so freaking excited! I can't wait to meet everyone and wake up in Orlando everyday!
I had my phone interview on Tuesday and heard back on Friday at 8:00 pm--that was quick! I know people who are on their two weeks of waiting and some that are pended, but don't worry! The congratulations will come soon--remember "Hakuna Matata" and all that lol. But seriously, don't worry they're probably just trying to place you in the perfect position.
Luckily, being away for a semester isn't that big of a deal because I'm a semester ahead anyway, so I'll come back and still be a junior. I will miss all my friends at Hofstra while I'm gone, but I've promised to send Christmas presents and goodies every once in a while! And the hardest part will be that I have to be away from my boyfriend for 5 and a half months or so. It's tough being away from each other for a week, so I can't even imagine that long but hopefully he'll be able to come and visit. He's never been to Disney, so it would be great to show him around!
But now I have to accept the offer and my fees as well as talk to my school about not being back next semester. I still have to register for classes on Sunday, but soon I will not be registered in those classes anymore. I'm excited to be away from Long Island for a semester, but I'm also going to miss the city being so close and hanging with friends of course. Besides that I am a little nervous about being thousands of miles away with an entire new group of people, but it's also exciting! I hope to make new friends and connections. Hopefully this program helps me professionally as well. Either way doors are opening up!
But I'm going to go pay my fees to the program and then decide the day I want to come---I'm trying to find a few roommates so if any of you are looking for one as well, talk to me! I'll fill out a roommate survey soon!
This just proves that dreams do come true if you have the courage to pursue them. Walt was a smart man.

Phone interview for the Disney College Program!
Hey guys!
So I just had my phone interview for the Disney College Program and I'm still so pumped up that instead of starting an essay, I thought I would talk about my experience! Not to mention it's easier to remember the questions I was asked now, instead of a week later.
Before I picked up the phone I was actually not that nervous. I was a little bit obviously, and had butterflies, but my real nervousness came the night before. I felt calm and as prepared as I could possibly be. As soon as the phone rang my heart jumped and it said "blocked," so I knew who was calling.
My interviewer's name was Carol and she was nice and even laughed at a few of my jokes (anyone who laughs at my jokes is good in my book)! I think I did pretty well and I followed a lot of the tips I had seen from YouTube videos, Tumblr, and a lot of other blogs.
I took a deep breath before I answered with, "Good afternoon, this is Hailey!"
Tips:
-Smile a lot
-Show the interviewer how passionate you are
-Try to not ramble and keep things short and sweet
-Share your own stories and personal anecdotes
-Have keywords in front of you
-Write down your interviewers name as soon as she says it
-Have a bottle of water next to you in case you get a dry mouth or need a moment to pause and think
-Walk around (at least for me this helped--it got my nerves out)
-Be in a quiet area (I played Disney songs very quietly in the background)
-Be confident and happy
The questions she asked me were pretty basic and straight forward. I only had one or two situational questions, which I think I answered as best I could. Other questions I knew were coming so I was prepared.
My questions were:
1) Would you prefer to work in Disney World or Disneyland?
2) Why do you want to be part of the Disney College Program?
3) Tell me about your previous work experience.
4) Would you prefer to work indoors or outdoors?
5) How would you handle an emergency situation?
6) Talk about a time you had a conflict in the work place and how you handled the situation.
7) Talk about a time you had a huge task and how were able to complete that task.
8) Top three roles and why
9) Do you have any tattoos/piercings that are visible outside of a one piece bathing suit?
10) How would you make a guest's experience magical?
11) How would you deal with a repetitive task?
12) Have you ever spoken in front of a large crowd before?
These were the questions I remember her asking me. None were too bad, and I feel as though I did well. I joked about how working outside would be awesome because I love the sun, but I also love air conditioning. And I made her laugh when talking about my past work experience as an umpire and working with children as a tour guide. I feel pretty confident about the interview, but it's all up in the air now! The interview lasted about 22 minutes!
Time to wait patiently! Fingers crossed.
Good luck to anyone else interviewing soon or those that have already interviewed and are waiting to hear. Just stay calm, be confident, and don't stress too much. This interview is about YOU and you should show how much you want the position and why. Show them your love for Disney and be yourself. You will do fine! I stopped being a nervous a few minutes into my interview so don't worry! Good luck everyone and I hope to see you all soon :)

Preparing for my Disney College Program phone interview!
Hey guys!
So on Tuesday February 26th at 3:00 pm I have my phone interview for the Disney College Program. I am so excited, but also extremely nervous. This is something I really want, so being prepared is a big deal. I've been watching many YouTube videos about questions people were asked for the program as well as some tips on how to prepare and I feel a little more confident/better after watching them...but still nervous! I also have a list of 50 or so questions I'm going to study from today and tomorrow! I don't want to over prepare and sound like a robot so that's why I'm only taking these two days to really study and prepare.
If I was accepted into the Disney College Program I would honestly be the happiest person in the world. Firstly, I love Disney and all the memories I have made there, but also I want to take the corporate communications class the program offers because it takes a look on how Disney handles public relations, which is what I want to do in the future! The class would fully teach and show me how PR works in the corporate world and I would find out if I actually want to do that for the rest of my life. Also, I would spend 6 months-9 months in Florida or California in the sunshine and surrounded by people who are enthusiastic and happy. I would see guests coming to the park for the first time, adults coming back to feel like children once again, and I would get to see and experience Disney everyday.
My friends would tell you that I'm in love with Disney, some would even say obsessed, but honestly I'm so passionate about always feeling young at heart. Disney reminds me to follow my dreams and never give up on them, as well as, to never lose my young heart. Even as I age and experience more about life, I never want to be hardened and become bitter about life. I've sadly already started to feel bitter and I want to get rid of that. When I go to work when I'm older I want to walk in everyday with a smile on my face. I never want to be upset that I didn't try to do everything to be happy in the future. So this is my shot, my future and I'm so excited.
Wish me luck! I hope the interview goes well!
And as Walt once said, "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." After all for Walt, it was all started by a mouse.
