Happy Easter and Disney Challenge: Day 11

My Favorite Disney Love Song: Something There

This song is my favorite love song because it shows that first impressions aren't always right. I also chose this song because it shows how people fall in love over time, not immediately like in other Disney stories. You see the two of them doing things together and slowly realizing new qualities that each other has. It's endearing and romantic.

Belle:
There's something sweet
And almost kind
But he was mean and he was coarse and unrefined
But now he's dear, and so unsure
I wonder why I didn't see it there before

Beast:
She glanced this way
I thought I saw
And when we touched she didn't shudder at my paw
No it can't be, I'll just ignore
But then she's never looked at me that way before

And then the Beast gives her an entire library and Belle discovers that he can't read well, so they read together. All I have to say is, that's perfect.

Happy Easter!!

My Disney Easter Eggs (my brother did the art work--except for Pooh, I did that one!)

I hope that you all had a lovely day and celebrated with friends and family! I know I did and we're currently watching The Hobbit--so I've got to get back to that!

Cheers everyone!

Disney Challenge: Day 10

My Favorite Songs: Pink Elephants on Parade, Prince Ali, Under the Sea, When you Wish Upon a Star, and Grim Grinning Ghosts

How could I choose just one song? I decided to choose my favorite songs based off different categories.

The first category is favorite beat/creative lyrics: Pink Elephants on Parade. This song is trippy and weird, no one can argue that. The scene occurs after Dumbo and Timothy Mouse get drunk and that's when pink and technicolor elephants start dancing around the screen. I love the instrumental parts of this song and the beat. Not to mention I love the line: "I can stand the sight of worms and look at microscopic germs, but technicolor pachyderms is really too much for me." The other song I love from this movie is Baby of Mine, but that song makes me cry. Little Dumbo is crying because his mom is locked up for being "crazy," and he is all alone in the world except for his mouse friend. Great music throughout this entire movie--but overall a bit racist--I mean the crow was named "Jim Crow," and there were also protesters put into the film which relates to Disney workers protesting while the movie was being made. Funny how that happens right? Nevertheless, Disney knew how to make some great music in 1941.

Favorite funny and interesting song: Prince Ali
This song is perfect because Robin Williams is the Genie and he makes everything funny. He switches from being a genie to a little boy, a woman, an old man and many more. Even when he doesn't visually change who he is, his voice can change to be something entertaining as well. The vibrancy of the characters and tune of this song make it something amazing---so make way for "Prince Ali"

Favorite overall song due to lyrics, melody, and show: Under the Sea
Ariel's song gets a little annoying, but Sebastian's song never gets old. He takes his argument and turns it into a tune that seems to involve every creature under the sea. This song is catchy, creative, and fun to sing along to with a bunch of people. The Little Mermaid was always my favorite movie as a little kid and to this day this song still stands out in my mind.
"Down here all the fish is happy
As off through the waves they roll
The fish on the land ain't happy
They sad 'cause they in their bowl
But fish in the bowl is lucky
They in for a worser fate
One day when the boss get hungry
Guess who's gon' be on the plate" --I guess Sebastian knows best!

Favorite Song that I have to talk about because IT IS Disney: When you Wish Upon a Star
Pinocchio has many great songs, but this song has become the Disney theme in a way. Dreams and "having the courage to pursue them," is the mantra of Disney. Not to mention going to Disney World or Disneyland takes your dreams and turns them into reality which is why this song can be heard all over the park and is the last song in many of the shows. Of course the famous Jiminy Cricket sings this song, and in many of the Kingdom Hearts games he is the wise old owl in a sense because he helps Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Sora throughout all the challenges. I feel like a majority of my favorite Disney songs come from some of the original Disney movies, which makes me think that music was better in the 1940's. This song always received an Academy Award in 1940 for Best Original Song!

Favorite Disney Attraction Song: Grim Grinning Ghosts
I was going to say "Yo ho, a Pirates life for me!" but then I found this video and I realized this is my favorite song. Growing up I was petrified of the Haunted Mansion, but as I got older I realized there were far too many puns in the ride as well as some pretty awesome songs. "There are 999 happy haunts here at the Haunted Mansion, but there's room for one more! muahaha" "Shh, listen. All our ghosts have been dying to meet you." This ride is made for Disney lovers and it one of the places that I have to visit when going to the parks. So much history on the ride---literally they haunt it!

Disney Challenge: Day 9

My Favorite Disney Original Character: Minnie Mouse

How could I not choose the woman in Mickey's life? Minnie is sweet yet sassy, cute yet dedicated, and supportive yet independent. As they said in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, "the man may be the head of the house, but the woman is the neck that turns the head any which way that she wants," and that certainly applies to Minnie. She helps Mickey through rough patches, shows him love, and is still able to keep her identity. Also, I've got to point out that Minnie has some style with her bows, heels, and polka dots. I will always love a woman with class, and a mouse with class--even better!

Disney Challenge: Day 8

My Favorite Disney Villain: Maleficent

As much as I love Ursula, Scar, Captain Hook, The Evil Queen, The Queen of Hearts, Dr. Facilier and many more there is only one true evil antagonist--Maleficent. All of the villains I mentioned previously have some agenda. For Ursula it was to get Ariel's soul, for Scar it's power, for Captain Hook it's power, The Evil Queen is power, The Queen of Heart's is power, and Dr. Facilier is money. As for Maleficent it's pure evil. She does not want a throne or money, she wants the death of Aurora. She wants to hurt the people around her for no clear or sound reason and she will do everything and anything to achieve it. She loses Aurora for a while, but when she finds her she doesn't hesitate going through with her plans to put a curse on the Princess and put the entire kingdom into a long deep sleep.

I read recently that a movie will be coming out in 2014 called "Maleficent." At first I was excited, and then I read that Angelina Jolie will be playing my favorite evil witch and my excitement level left. I'm hoping that when this movie does in fact come to theaters that Jolie will not take any of the wickedness away from Maleficent. I will say that I always thought Maleficent was beautiful and that Jolie will at least have that going for her. Maleficent does not sing, she does not show any weakness, and that is why she is my favorite villain--because she is the true definition of an evil person. Plus her costume is pretty bad ass.

Disney Challenge: Day 7

My Favorite Disney Sidekick: Timon and Pumbaa

A meerkat and a warthog aren't a likely duo, but they're the sidekicks that anyone would want. Timon is the bossy know-it-all which everyone needs in their corner and Pumbaa is the dumb but comical character that is the "muscles," of the group, even though that isn't the case compared to Simba. Timon and Pumbaa have some funny lines including:

"What do you want me to do, dress in drag and do the hula?"-Timon

"Hey kid-what's eating you?"-Pumbaa "Nothing, he's on top of the food chain."-Timon

"Wow. He looks Blue."-Timon "I'd say brownish gold."-Pumbaa "No, I mean he's depressed."-Timon "Oh"-Pumbaa

"When the world turns it back on you, you turn your BACK on the world!"-Timon

Of course these are only a few, but he's a video for more of the great Timon and Pumbaa:

Disney Challenge: Day 6

My Favorite Disney Animal: Dory!

I couldn't have answered this any other way! Dory is hilarious, odd, but somehow helpful. She makes Finding Nemo with her quirky attitude, short term memory loss, and comedic relief. She is never fearful of anything, she just keeps swimming, just keeps swimming...and even in the most dangerous situation, surrounded by sharks, she is somehow able to save Marlin. Also she randomly knows how to read (P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney) and speak whale (or so she thinks). Due to her short term memory loss she doesn't know where any of her family went, but she makes a new family with 2 clown fish. She is probably one of the most hilarious Disney characters (props to Ellen DeGeneres) and if there is really going to be a Finding Nemo 2, I hope she is the star. I think if more people were like Dory the world would be a better, yet more chaotic place.

Disney Challenge: Day 5

My Favorite Disney Hero: Hercules

I thought for today I would go with the obvious answer and choose Hercules because he went from "zero to hero just like that!" But in all seriousness at first Hercules was only trying to be a hero for the fortune and fame and then he realized that a life on Earth would be better for him than any life of leisure as a god. He discovered the true meaning of selflessness and love when he placed the value of others lives before his own. He took Meg's place in order to save her life, a truly heroic act. Of course he also fought a 3 headed monster that turned into a 21 head monster quickly, he took down Hades, and proved to the entire god world that he was a hero. I love all the songs in this movie and the characters, especially Phil and the singing ladies--My favorite quotes have to be: "Hercules? Honey, you mean Hunkules!" and by Phil: So, ya wanna be a hero, kid? Well, whoop-de-do! I have been around the block before with blockheads just like you. Each and ev'ryone a disappointment, pain for which there ain't no ointment--So much for excuses, though a kid of Zeus is asking me to jump into the fray my answer is two words - O.K." Of course he says "O.K" because he is struck by a lightening bolt.

So the next time someone asks you who your favorite Disney hero is always remember---who put the glad in gladiator? Hercules!

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom

I was recently surfing different blogs and I kept seeing "Sorcerers of the MK." I had no idea what it was, so I did some researching and it's this awesome scavenger hunt that not many guests know about! The main premise of the game can be found on the site but to sum it up:

You become an apprentice and help the wizard Merlin fight Disney villains who want to take over the Magic Kingdom. Hades is the leader and in order to get control of the kingdom he has to reassemble the "crystal" of the MK. A bunch of Disney villains are helping him find the crystals and your job is to stop him.

In order to play all you need to do is go to the firehouse on Main Street U.S.A., or behind the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square where you'll be given a map and other tools needed to succeed in the mission.

You'll travel through Fantasyland,  Adventureland, Main Street, Frontierland, and Liberty Square where you'll be given clues from Merlin on how to defeat the villains. You can unlock Magic Portals using your Sorcerer Key card, and challenge Hades and his henchmen using Spell Cards. Find all the crystals before the villains do in order to win!

Here's a video (don't watch the entire thing or it could ruin the surprise of it--this is just for an idea of what it's like):

Personally I think this is awesome because it took the Disney Imagineers four years to create and it reminds me of Kingdom Hearts. When I'm at Walt Disney World for the DCP I'm definitely doing this! On the bucket list it goes!

Be sure to check it out if you're visiting the Magic Kingdom in Orlando!

Disney Challenge: Day 4

My Favorite Disney Prince: Prince Adam aka "The Beast"

You've got to love a guy with a bad-boy side, even if that side is inhuman. The beast is a man who is lonely and conceited, who needs to learn how to become someone worth loving. When he meets Belle his attitude is too much to handle, but as time goes on he becomes more like a loyal dog than an angry beast. The way he falls in love with Belle is my favorite story because even though he is not truly himself, he allows himself to feel true love and show love as well. "For better or for worse," definitely applies here because even though the Beast was at his worst, he still fell in love and vice versa with Belle. Not to mention, he's probably the most attractive Prince after he transforms back into a human. Just to show you what I mean:

Disney Challenge: Day 3

Favorite Disney Heroine: Lilo

I was going to go for the obvious answer and say Mulan, but alas I really wanted to mention someone who I love, Lilo. Lilo is a heroine because in the face of adversity, she literally kicks life (and little red heads) in the face. She is feisty and devoted and isn't afraid to stand up to people who make fun of her odd friend Stitch. She has a passionate belief in "Ohana," aka family, and even though she constantly fights with her sister, she doesn't become bitter, instead she loves more. Her love for Stitch seems impossible at times, but as the doorknob in Alice in Wonderland says, "You mean impassable, nothing is impossible." She defeats the CIA, or at least proves to them that Stitch is part of her family, and has grown more as person than I have in all twenty years of my life. Lilo is my "spirit animal" or for those people reading my blog that don't know what that means, it means that said person or thing is a representation of myself (yay for urban dictionary). Lilo is not afraid to fight for what she wants, and neither am I.

Disney Challenge: Day 2

Favorite Disney Princess: Tiana

Choosing my favorite Disney Princess was difficult because four princesses stood out in my mind. I chose this based on how I relate to them and how I look at femininity. Ariel was willing to throw everything away for a guy, Aurora was naive and didn't see what was actually occurring around her, Snow White was innocent and too good for me--no girl is EVER that nice, we all have a 'claws out' side to us, Cinderella never had a backbone, Jasmine played the damsel in distress, Pocahontas almost chose a man over her people, and Rapunzel never questioned that her hair was freakishly magical. I don't relate to these princesses as much as the ones I'm going to list soon, but I still love them because they do have qualities that I like as well. But the top four in my mind are: Mulan, Merida, Belle, and Tiana.

Mulan: To honor her family she goes off to war and fights in extreme battles. Not to mention she portrays princesses in a new light. She doesn't play the traditional role of a princess, but instead plays an independent woman who can fight and spit "just like the men do." She confronts the Huns and Shan Yu--one of the creepiest Disney Villains.

Merida: An outspoken, tom-boy who isn't afraid to hike up her dress and shoot arrows. She has a mind of her own and adventures to discover. With hair like a flame and the fierceness of 10 armies, Merida proves she doesn't need a man to rule. If she wants a husband, she doesn't want her mother to choose one for her.

Belle: One of the more traditional princesses, but nevertheless one that I think embodies what a female character should. Belle is seen as the "odd" girl simply because she loves to read and think for herself, but in my mind that is how more female roles should be cast, (not the odd part, the intellectual and unique part) not to mention she is selfless enough to give her life over to a "monster" (at least I'd be afraid of a half man half...bear/wolf/ram) in order to save her father.

But my favorite character is one who perseveres through the impossible to reach her dream.

Tiana: A young woman with hardly any money, who dreams of one day owning her own restaurant in honor of her father. He dreamed about having his restaurant, but unfortunately died before he could follow out that dream. So even though Tiana is only a waitress at a local restaurant, making barely enough to scrape by, she never stops trying. "Almost there," is a song that embodies the true Disney slogan that "dreams come true only if you have the courage to pursue them." She also has to teach Prince Naveen a few things about working hard and rolling up his sleeves, rather than letting servants take care of everything. She is a strong independent woman who finds a man that balances out her stubborn work-a-holic attiude. Tiana is beautiful, hard-working, and strong. When life knocks her over, she gets back up hard.

Disney Challenge: Day 1

My Favorite Character: Winnie the Pooh!

Not a big surprise here! Everyone who know me really well knows that I love me some Pooh. He's a cuddly old bear who lives in the Hundred Acre Woods who can be a bit slow, but that makes him even more adorable. Chubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff, willy nilly silly old bear.  I have a stuffed Pooh myself as well as Pooh slippers both given to me by my boyfriend, which makes me love him even more.  Pooh also has some amazing quotes relating to love. My personal favorite are:

"If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you."

“I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.”

“If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.” (If only that was the case Pooh!)

“If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you.”

That last quote is not only my favorite Pooh quote, but also one of my favorite Disney quotes of all time. Props to this chubby little honey addicted bear!

Always making my life more complicated

I recently discovered that to take part in the Disney College Program my college is making me do quite a lot. Since this internship will not count toward my PR internships, I have to take my liberal arts credits and use them for the program (not that I'm complaining--woo credits!). Also I have to get a signature from someone from the communication school (so difficult to track people down, it's frustrating) as well as ask a faculty member to look over me while I'm at the program writing a 50 page research paper. Call it an independent study if you will. Also difficult to find someone willing to help me out. Oh did I mention the research paper is 50 pages?

Okay honestly it won't be that bad because 25 of those pages is about my experience during the program--basically this blog in a better organized and fancy fashion. As for the other 25, that is a research paper on whichever topic I decide to do my independent study on. I'm thinking English because then I could write an awesome paper on the differences between Disney fairy tales and Grimm fairy tales.

So in the next week I have to:

-Apply for PR internships in Rochester (this over the weekend)
-Declare my English minor
-Talk with someone in the school of communications and get a signature
-Talk to my general advisor
-Write a proposal on why I want to be in the program
-Print out a copy of my acceptance letter
-Talk to my favorite English Professor and see if he's willing to do an "independent study."
-Study for my marketing test
-Get my exercise and eating healthy on--so ready for that.

Then finally, home for spring break where I can try and relax for a little bit. But I hope everything works out and I can be successful!

Does anyone else have to do this for their college? I would really like to know! Message me something here or on my tumblr !!

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Broken laptop and some photography shots

I haven't been posting as much lately because my laptop has been in the repair shop. It's odd because I didn't realize how much I actually relied on it until it was gone. Now I can't watch Netflix or post things--except for occasionally on a small phone screen. But alas, my weeks have been filled with school work and this weekend, a bit of fun which consisted of sore legs from dancing too much, full stomachs, and Oz The Great and Powerful.

In my personal opinion the movie was nothing like I thought it would be. It wasn't particularly shocking or adventurous. Instead, it was cheesy and the wicked witch of the west was lame. Perhaps I was expecting to enter a theater with fear and excitement, instead I entered the world of children. Which isn't usually bad, but I mean it in both a literal and metaphorical sense. Firstly, there were children there, but they were younger than I expected. One child was two years old and screaming within the first few minutes and the rest were loud and apparently did not learn how to act in public. One father brought seven children with him and one of them was the screaming baby. He left the theater to console his crying baby, but left his other 6 children (the oldest being  around 7 years old). These children continued to run around the theater yelling that they had to go to the bathroom or that they wanted more candy. To be honest, I was on the verge of flipping out. I paid 15 bucks to see this movie in 3D and I couldn't hear a thing. But when I could focus what was on the screen was not that much better. Mila Kunis as the the wicked witch was not appealing and definitely not believable. As for James Franco aka "Oz," he was cheesy and lame. Zach Braff was the only lovable character in the entire film as the odd little monkey side kick. I rate the movie a 5.5 out of 10.

Also for my photo class my recent project was close up shots and this was my favorite:

I will blog more once my laptop is back in a week.

Cheers!

I was accepted into the Disney College Program!

Last night I opened my e-mail and BAM "Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the Disney College Program at the Walt Disney World Resort!" Then I ran back to my room to see what position I was given! I scared my friend Ananda because I slammed into my door (she was in my room) and screamed "I WAS ACCEPTED!" I'm sorry Ananda, but I'm really glad you were there to see me go insane! Then I clicked on a link and came to this page, which I will print out and put on my wall or something:

It wasn't my first choice to be "Main Entrance Operations," but it was my fourth, so not so bad right? I'm not sure which park I will be working at yet, but I'm sure I'll find that out when I get there. But basically...I'M SO EXCITED AND I WILL BE IN FLORIDA FOR A SEMESTER! I get to skip most of the cold season and work at the happiest place on earth! On top of that I will be taking a corporate communications class and a Disney heritage class. I'm so freaking excited! I can't wait to meet everyone and wake up in Orlando everyday!

I had my phone interview on Tuesday and heard back on Friday at 8:00 pm--that was quick! I know people who are on their two weeks of waiting and some that are pended, but don't worry! The congratulations will come soon--remember "Hakuna Matata" and all that lol. But seriously, don't worry they're probably just trying to place you in the perfect position.

Luckily, being away for a semester isn't that big of a deal because I'm a semester ahead anyway, so I'll come back and still be a junior. I will miss all my friends at Hofstra while I'm gone, but I've promised to send Christmas presents and goodies every once in a while! And the hardest part will be that I have to be away from my boyfriend for 5 and a half months or so. It's tough being away from each other for a week, so I can't even imagine that long but hopefully he'll be able to come and visit. He's never been to Disney, so it would be great to show him around!

But now I have to accept the offer and my fees as well as talk to my school about not being back next semester. I still have to register for classes on Sunday, but soon I will not be registered in those classes anymore. I'm excited to be away from Long Island for a semester, but I'm also going to miss the city being so close and hanging with friends of course. Besides that I am a little nervous about being thousands of miles away with an entire new group of people, but it's also exciting! I hope to make new friends and connections. Hopefully this program helps me professionally as well. Either way doors are opening up!

But I'm going to go pay my fees to the program and then decide the day I want to come---I'm trying to find a few roommates so if any of you are looking for one as well, talk to me! I'll fill out a roommate survey soon!

This just proves that dreams do come true if you have the courage to pursue them. Walt was a smart man.
