Disney Challenge Day 30

My Favorite Theme Park Show: The Electrical Parade

Honestly, this is the only show I can remember seeing. That's why I'm so excited to be doing the Disney College Program--so I can witness most of the shows. I know I'm excited about seeing wishes, Fantasmic again (I haven't see it since I was 7 so I don't remember anything), the Indiana Jones show (never seen it), and the electrical parade, which I saw from afar one time. I'm not that knowledgeable about the shows, but I'm definitely excited to see it! Check this photo out from "TheTimeTheSpace" on flickr: (I definitely want to try something like this)

Check out more pictures from "TheTimeTheSpace" here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thetimethespace/

Well that's it! The end of my 30 days Disney Challenge. For the next couple of weeks I might not be blogging as much because it's finals time at college, and I have far too many papers to write. My next post will probably be about meeting one of my roommates from the program in NYC! She's "wicked nice" and we took a pretty funny picture, so until then Disney fans--I'll see ya on the flip side!

Disney Challenge Day 29

My Favorite Theme Park Attraction: The Indiana Jones Ride or Rockin' Roller coaster

The Indiana Jones Ride! Picture from Tours Departing Daily

When it comes to Disneyland, nothing thrills me more than waiting in a 2 and a half hour line to ride the Indiana Jones attraction. Just kidding, but I really do love this ride. When I was a little girl I was too afraid to go on it because my dad told me there were snakes on it, and lets just say one of my biggest fears are those scaled creatures with fangs. I would watch as my entire family would go off together while my grandma got me some churros to munch on. Then finally when I revisited the park when I was older I thought, "fine I can do this, snakes? No biggie." And I'm glad I took my advice. I love this ride because you're in a big jeep and one person drives it. The fun part is that everyone blames the driver for the bumpy ride, and the first time I rode it I was the driver. As you continue on into a strange temple you find danger at every turn. From snakes, to bugs (this part was actually scarier to me than the big fake cobra), fire, and a pretty huge boulder-- you help Indie find his way. I love the theme song of this movie played throughout and I can still hear my dad laughing and yelling "ow!" when the bugs blew air on us. Great ride.

Another ride that I love but have only ridden once is Rockin' Roller Coaster. I obviously love it for Aerosmith and the old rock and roll feel, but also because it's fast and furious. When the ride first starts you shoot off like a bullet, going from 0-70mph in seconds. From then on there are twists and curves and some pretty awesome music. It reminds me a lot of Space Mountain which unfortunately adopted the loud music. Space Mountain shouldn't have rock music--it should have mystical music! Get on it Disney! Anyway, I can't wait to go on this ride more in 110 days!

3) Epcot, WDW
4) The Animal Kingdom, WDW

6) Hollywood Studios, WDW

Photo from "Tours Departing Daily" on Flickr "Good Morning Disneyland"

I love all the parks, but this one will always be the most special. I grew up going to Disneyland with my parents and my twin brother and it's always been the most special. To my brother's favorite: Star Tours, to my favorite: Indiana Jones, to my dad's favorite: Pirates of the Caribbean, to my mom's favorite: Space Mountain (? I think this is her favorite--maybe she'll see this and correct me), we love Disneyland. Of course I just realized all of our favorite rides are either in tomorrow land or adventure land, but we also love fantasy land and everything in between. From the Electrical Parade, to the "scary" Haunted Mansion, to the storybook ride--Disneyland is the place that I thought was a dream when I was younger. Of course, I still like Walt Disney World, I've just experienced it less so I know less about it. I do know that at Disneyland I feel like I'm walking into the original park. There are even apartments around the park that Walt stayed in (one of Main Street U.S.A above the fire department and one above the Pirates of the Caribbean in New Orleans Square) with his family! And there's a special train that Walt made for his wife that makes a rare appearance for special guests. Not to mention the Blue Bayou (which I still need to eat at--I've never been!) in the Pirates ride. But who knows maybe my opinion will change in 111 days when my journey as a cast member begins! I'm so excited for what the future will hold and exploring all the parks, downtown Disney, and the resorts!

Disney Challenge Day 27

My Favorite Quote: Winnie the Pooh, said by Christopher Robin

I actually wrote this quote earlier on my blog, but here it is again:

“If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you.”

For some reason this quote sticks with me and means a lot to me. Basically if I ever wanted to be extremely romantic or to show everything I feel for a person this would be what I would want to say. I know in the movie they're friends talking to each other, but for me, this is romantic in every sense of the word. I like to think I have a "way with words," but when words fail me this works better.

Disney Challenge Day 26

Saddest Death: Mufasa

How could I not choose this death? It is sad, a bit scary when you're younger, and little Simba watches it happen! Also his brother Scar is the one that kills him. I know this story is basically that of Hamlet, but it is so disturbing in cartoon form. I remember crying during this part many times, and I probably still would now if I was watching it. I think what makes it the most sad is when Simba says, "Dad, get up! We've got to go home!" because he doesn't understand that his father has passed away.

Disney Challenge Day 25

My Favorite Scene from My Favorite Movie: I've got friends on the other side: the Princess and the Frog

I love this scene so much because firstly, I love the song and secondly, the villain--Dr. Facilier has so many interesting aspects to his character. He has a shadow that seems to have a mind of it's own--an even more "evil" side if you can imagine. Also, the colors, the shadows, the talking heads, everything in this scene is interesting to me. This entire movie makes me want to visit New Orleans and see what it's all about. The people, the music, the food--it seems like an amazing place to take in.This scene however, is a bit creepy but for some reason I can't help but love it!

Disney is changing the "dorming situation" for CP's

Instead of the infamous move in day where everyone gets up at 3am, waits in line with their roommates, and then requests which apartment complex they will be living in Disney is now putting together a new plan.

10 days prior to arrival all Disney College Program participants will receive an email where you will be able to make roommate selections and choose your apartment complex. Of course Disney says that they do their best to accommodate, but that roommate selections and your choice of apartment complexes don't always work out--scary at first, but I think they say this in case something "odd" happens.

I was a bit freaked at first when one of my roommates texted me about this--I was worried we wouldn't be able to room together and that would have been depressing, but I think it will all work out.

Apparently if just one of your roommates goes on and makes their housing selection and their roommate choices, the roommates selected will get a confirmation email where they can accept being your roommate. Just have all of your roommates dorming numbers ready before you do it and make sure you all agree on your preferences when it comes to the apartment complexes.

I'm actually a bit bummed because I was excited to wake up really early and stand in line with my roommates and be able bond with all the other CP's, but alas our bonding time will be cut short. But hey that means more time hanging out late and getting (a little) time to sleep in. Also feeling more awake for fireworks at the Polynesian Resort!

Disney Challenge Day 24

A Movie That Makes Me Cry: Fox and the Hound

“Forever is a long long time and time has a way of changing things”

First of all this movie is about a friendship that wasn't destined to last. The "best of friends" song makes me tear up and the worst is when the older woman says goodbye to the fox in the woods. I think it makes me cry because I thought about my dog Fudge and leaving him behind or something. Animals do me in--it's true. The only movies I've ever really cried about are movies with animals (Marley and Me, Seabiscuit, etc.). If for some reason you want a good cry--grab some Ben & Jerry's, a lot of tissues, and a blanket to hold onto because this movie will have you tearing up.

Disney Challenge Day 23

A Movie That Makes Me Laugh: Wreck It Ralph

This movie is witty, the part that I will always laugh at is when the guards start singing "ORE-O EOOOOOOO." Also Ralph and Vanellope call each other the names like "poop head" etc. which is entertaining and even a bit endearing. Another part that makes me laugh is the relationship between Felix and Sergeant Calhoun--especially the part where they're sinking in quicksand and the "laffy taffy" saves them. Loved Wreck it Ralph!

Update 4/13

Well, hi guys! I haven't had a personal post in a while because I've been really busy with school and such. April is such a crummy month and I have so much work to do this weekend, but I thought I would take a break and post an update!

Firstly-yesterday was exactly four months until my DCP! I'm so excited because I already have some awesome roommates, and let's just say it's going to be the most fun experience.

Secondly-Remember a while back I posted something about having to do many things for my college in order to participate in the DCP? Well I have accomplished all! Well sort of. Basically I was waiting to get a professor to sponsor my internship/do an independent study with me and yesterday the professor I wanted to help me said yes! I still have to talk to the Dean of the school to actually see if they'll let me do an independent study while I'm in Florida, but I think that will go well because the English department is filled with a lot of nice people.

I am so excited about this because...IT MEANS I'M ACTUALLY GOING! WOOT!

Now I just need to get past the next 5 weeks filled with tests, final papers, and far too much homework. Let's do this!!

First and foremost I should probably go do my PR project because it's due Monday but before I go I want to post a picture from my one year anniversary with my boyfriend! We went to Coney Island and it was a bit cold and windy, but nevertheless it was so much fun :) I love you Jay!

In the next personal post I'll probably post a "bucket list" for my fall DCP 2013! Hope everyone has a nice weekend-or at least better than my homework filled one. Rafiki agrees with me with all the work this weekend:

Adios!!

Disney Challenge Day 22

An underrated movie: Atlantis, The Lost Empire

I recently re-watched this movie on Netflix and I realized how much I love it. The characters are great, I love Michael J. Fox, and the natives of Atlantis are dressed in such a cool way. I love the adventure of going to try and find Atlantis and then when they do find it,  it's magical. Also this movie is surprisingly funny. So if you have time in the next few days, you should definitely give it a watch!

P.s. I love the character below

Disney Challenge Day 21

An overrated movie: Cars

I love Cars, but making a third movie seems like a bit much. The second movie was just "okay," in my opinion, so why does there need to be a third one? The Cars craze is a bit out of hand because the originality of the movie isn't that great compared to movies such as Toy Story and Monsters Inc. I loved the new Cars section at Disney's California Adventure, but I'm just not a huge fan of the movies. I like them, don't get me wrong, I just don't see what the "big deal" is. Let's stop at Cars 2 and not make a movie about Planes which I heard was coming out. Like really? What's next? Motorcycles?

Disney Challenge: Day 20

My Favorite Disney Sequel: The Lion King 2, Simba's Pride

This movie surprised me with how much I liked it. I actually don't watch Disney sequels as a rule, but last year in my freshman year of college I thought, "why not try watching this one?" And guess what? It was awesome--the character Kovu is the best. My friends and I even joke around about how it's weird how we're all attractive to a cartoon character of a lion! But really--check this movie out if you have a free night, or if it's a rainy dull day outside.

Disney Challenge: Day 19

My Least Favorite Pixar Movie: WALL-E

Sorry, it had to be said. The entire movie is like Cast Away because WALL-E doesn't talk. Clearly he shows emotion, but the entire time I wanted him to speak! This movie also lacked a quality of comedy that all Pixar movies seem to have. Sorry WALL-E, you're cute, but I'm not a fan.

Disney Challenge: Day 18

My Favorite Pixar Movie: Finding Nemo

I couldn't answer this any other way. I love Toy Story, Wreck it Ralph, Brave, and many more but Finding Nemo is the movie that stands out in my mind--which is why I'm so excited for the sequel. The entire movie is funny, sad, and lovable. Not to mention the characters are definitely the best out of any Pixar movie (Toy Story is a close second). As an audience member you find yourself cheering for the fish, crying with them, and rejoicing with them. Even though the friendship between Dory and Marlin seems unlikely, it makes a perfect match.

Disney Challenge: Day 17

My Least Favorite Disney Classic: Bambi

Simply because it is so sad and I only saw it once when I was really young. But I do like the phrase, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Disney Challenge: Day 16

My Favorite Disney Classic: Alice In Wonderland

I know too many people who dislike this movie, but I am in love with it. I love how weird it is, I love the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit, and all the other odd character's Alice meets a long the way. I also like the riddle, "Why is a raven like a writing desk?" Have you always wondered the answer? Well here it is: "Poe wrote on both of them." Get it?! Anyway, this is my favorite classic because the music is fantastic, the characters are so freaking weird but I love them, and the color in it. I know that sounds weird, but I seriously love all the different colors, like the Cheshire cat is pink and purplish, the Mad Hatter is known for his green hat, and of course the queen of hearts needs her RED roses. The one word I would use for this movie is, "Curiouser and Curiouser."

Check out the photos, they're some of the original drawings for the film!

Disney Challenge: Day 15

The first Disney Movie I saw: The Lion King

According to my parent's my brother and I were very little and didn't pay attention the entire time, but hey, The Lion King was the first I ever saw. Apparently I didn't realize how sad it was then, I just liked the animals!

Disney Challenge: Day 14

My Favorite Disney Kiss: Aladdin and Jasmine

This kiss is adorable and surprising. They actually look like they're kissing as well--with a lot of the Disney kisses, characters look like their faces are just being smooshed together, and with this one looks like two faces and lips. But what I love about this kiss is the genuine feelings portrayed on the animated character's faces. They're surprised, so you see the wide eyes, and then they realize it's what they wanted the entire time. Not to mention that Aladdin was going to chicken out, so the magic carpet helped him a bit. I also like that after they kiss and Jasmine leaves, Aladdin is extremely happy--I feel like I just assume guys are like "meh whatever, it's just a kiss," but perhaps that isn't the case.

Disney Challenge: Day 13

My Least Favorite Disney Song: The Siamese Cat Song

So I really don't dislike that many Disney songs, but this is one that creeps me out and annoys me. Firstly it's a bit racist and secondly if those two cats were looking at me I would probably think they were trying to steal my soul. I feel so bad for Lady---she just wants to get out of there alive and away from those cats and then they make a mess and blame it on her. I'm not a fan of these two poopers. Not to mention the way they sing is creepy and makes me feel like I'm in some odd alternative universe.

It's Official: Finding Dory

Pixar's 'Finding Nemo' Sequel Titled 'Finding Dory,' Set for 2015

I am so excited to say that the sequel to Finding Nemo, entitled Finding Dory will be in theaters November 25, 2015! As I posted earlier here, Dory is one of my favorite Disney/Pixar characters. She is funny, lovable, and put a smile on my face. I still remember when I first saw Finding Nemo! I was 10 years old and visiting my grandparents in southern California. My grandma let my twin brother and I have Del Taco (if you have never tried Del Taco you need to try it--best Mexican fast food) and we snuck fries into the theater (yes, they sell french fries!). I remember loving the movie, all the characters, and how Pixar brought the ocean to life for me, making it a little less scary.

According to Pixar, Finding Dory will take place on the California coastline, which makes this movie even more special for me considering where I saw the prequel! I know this movie will be awesome and seeing it 12 years later as a 22 year old will not change how much I'll love it. Dory, I have high hopes for you but I'm sure Ellen will do a great job!

Marlin, Nemo, and a few other characters will be back as well as new characters to be introduced, which I am so excited about because all the Finding Nemo characters were hilarious and perfect.

Can 2015 come sooner?

Disney Challenge: Day 12

My Favorite Villain Song: Poor Unfortunate Souls

The villain songs are some of my favorite, but my mind instantly popped to Ursula's song, "Poor Unfortunate Souls." She's sassy throughout the entire song, and it's pretty catchy. I love when Ariel says that if she becomes a human she'll never see her father or her sisters again and Ursula says, " Life's full of tough choices, isn't it?" It is the epitome of sassy and evil.

Not much to say other than that! I'm heading back to school today to finish the last month and half before summer...let's hope it goes quickly!!
